So today we went to a very different Chinese market. This was a 4-5 story mall with stores about the size of a walk-in closest that sold purses, watches, very fake bedazzled jewelry, electronics and a lot of other random stuff. It was pretty obvious this is all stuff that "fell off the back of a truck" at the factories that make them, or were really good knock-offs. Unfortunatly unless you need a watch or a purse all the shops start looking the same. And as an added bonus there are people who speak a little bit of english who get paid to try and bring you to stores. So the entire trip was a circus of trying to ignore people waving at you and tapping you on the shoulder asking what you are looking for. They must have gotten the "I'm just looking" response a lot because a lot of them just wave and say "Hello Just Looking!" expecting that to mean they have that or something.
We managed to buy 2 things the first being 6 sets of unique Chopsticks. In these types of places Haggling is the norm and expected. Watching Erin haggle was impressive, she definately understands that the best weapon in haggling is to just walk away. For both items we were walking away and got flagged down quickly that the price we wanted was fine. The second item we got is a gift for someone who might be reading so I can't give too much info. It was a fun experience!
