So today we learned the trick of this island. While it gets blazing hot during the day and stays hot during the night there is almost always a constant breeze on one side of the island. Most of today was spent sitting in that breeze after a breezeless, stale night in our little cabin. With no electronics around (the island actually has a really cool solar power system for minimum stuff) Scott has grabbed the island's copy of Hunger Games and hasn't put it down all day, except for a snorkling break after lunch. In a weird twist of fate, Erin's electronic reader has broken and she is instead reading a book by Dr. Phil about how our marrage isn't going to last. Of all the times for her reader to fail, being on a remote island for a week is by far the worst.
For those who were at our wedding and tasted the meal prepared for it, you have some idea on how good all the other meals are. They are all master pieces prepared by our sole caretaker Alberto. I plan to gain 30 lbs at least. Not bad for a guy who used to pave roads from 5am - midnight, 6 days a week. He also shared with us that around May 20th he had 2 guests that were renting out the island to bring in the end of the world! Remember that farce? They had sold everything and bought a one way ticket to Belize and were waiting for the sky to fill with fire. They tried to convince Alberto, but he was not convinced and just asked them when they wanted to eat. So after 5 days waiting for the end of the world they had to ask for help booking flights back to the US since they had only bought one way tickets!
We are being picked up for scuba diving tomorrow, news about the storm from Alberto has been hard to get, he just keeps saying, "if it's bad they'll come get us." I'm hoping talking to some scuba divers tomorrow will ease my fears.
