Sun Temple

Today we took a flight to see the Sun Temple in Abu Simbel for the day.

This was an optional part of the tour and I'm glad we took it. It is basically in the middle of nowhere on the side on a giant lake. And it turns out the lake is the result of Egypt damming the Nile, the original location of the temple would have it underwater today if it have not been moved by UNESCO. It's simple insane the idea of moving these massive temples. What's even weirder is they were only able to move a fraction of the temples affected by the dam, so there are quite a few ancient temples under tons of water. It's sad but apparently you can't throw a stick here in Egypt without hitting something over 2000 years old. Tonight we sail down river!
