Ferry Ride

Yesterday Erin and I drove to Picton, a town where were able to catch a ferry to the Northern island of New Zealand.  It turns out the ferry was cancelled the entire day yesterday and all the hotels in the area were fully booked with people who got bumped.  Luckily I have an amazing wife that books things ahead of time and we had a room with no problems.  But if the weather was so bad yesterday hopefully we could get across today.  So we got up at 4am to get in line with our car for check-in, but an e-mail told us, due to weather, we were delayed until 10am, so we tried to get back to sleep and then got on the ferry at 10 am.  The weather was a bit rough and I was quite surprised the amount of motion the boat, which is carrying a ton of vehicles and railroad cars, could do and still not cause problems.  It was a shaky 3 hour trip.  But we made it and after another 5 hours of driving we made it to our next stop.  Unfortunately the lateness of the ferry did mean we missed seeing Mt. Doom in the light.  We drove right by it, or at least we should have.
